The Department Earth & Environmental Sciences (EENS) offers this environmental science major, which provides students with broad exposure to environmental problems, as well as training in essential problem-solving skills, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Environmental Informatics (EI). The major requires a broad background in the natural sciences, as well as core curriculum that familiarizes students with tools and methods. Students completing the degree should be able to enter environmental scientist positions in private industry, environmental consulting, and regulatory agencies. In addition, the major provides a strong science background for individuals seeking to practice environmental law. Students majoring in environmental earth science may elect to broaden their background in environmental issues by completing a major environmental studies in the School of Liberal Arts.

EENS courses (six courses)
* EENS 1110 – Planet Earth with EENS 1115 Planet Earth Laboratory
* EENS 1300 - Earth as a Living Planet with EENS 1305 Earth as a Living Planet Laboratory
* EENS 2070 - Weather & Climate
* EENS 2090 – Surface Water Hydrology (should be taken as soon as possible after major declaration; C- or better required for the major).
* EENS 3150 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems with EENS 3151 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems Laboratory
* EENS 4300 – Groundwater Hydrology
Courses Required Outside EENS (seven courses)
* MATH 1210 - Calculus I (MATH1310 Consolidated Calculus may be taken instead of MATH1210/1220)
* MATH 1220 - Calculus II (MATH1310 Consolidated Calculus may be taken instead of MATH1210/1220)
* MATH 1230 - Statistics for Scientists and Engineers
* CHEM 1070 - General Chemistry I with CHEM 1075 General Chemistry Laboratory I
* CHEM 1080 - General Chemistry II with CHEM 1085 General Chemistry Laboratory
* CHEM 2500 - Environmental Chemistry
* PHYS 1310 - General Physics I with PHYS 1311 General Physics Laboratory (PHYS 1210/1311 will satisfy this requirement)
Electives (five courses)
Any five EENS courses at or above 2000-level with a minimum of three electives at the 3000-4000 level. COLQ 4120 - The Grand Canyon - is also an approved elective.
